I was inspired to write On The Trail while walking the trails of Washoe Meadows State Park, which was established in 1984 in order to protect an environmentally sensitive parcel of land, and is located near my home. Many of the illustrations are based on real photographs that I took within the park. When I was building the book, I sent Lois a recording of the song for inspiration, a layout of the book with the lyrics printed on each page, and several of my photographs. She took it from there and brought the story to life with her colorful paintings.
This photograph of the trail to the big meadow in Washoe Meadows State Park is one of my favorites. It is part of my trail card collection.
This beautiful park is a place of inspiration for me.
